As an artist who has been in a committed relationship for many years, I have become more aware of the complexities that come with a long distance relationship, having moved temporarily to a new city. Not just an emotional roller coaster of ups and downs, there lies another tension of pulls and pushes - one marked by separation and reunification. Limited by time and space, the feelings of loss and longing as well as joy and comfort often are felt deeply.

Hands of a Long Distance Relationship (2023) reveals the emotional range of being together and apart by focusing on my own and my husband’s hands, as touch is the one sense that is absent from our ability to communicate over a distance. Evoking the bittersweet nature of such a relationship, this series provides a space for people to reflect on their own experiences with love and distance.
