Strands of Sisterhood: Embracing Friendship Through Hair Play (2024) follows the intimate world of three friends whose interactions revolve around the soothing rituals of hair play. It is rooted in my own family history of my mother, sisters and myself seeking each other out during overwhelming moments. Capturing moments of tenderness and connection, meaningful exchanges occur within this space of shared comfort.
Often considered a symbol of identity and personal expression, hair takes on new significance in this project; a conduit for communication beyond words, a medium through which friends express care, empathy, and support for one another. Through the gentle strokes, brushing, braiding and washing of hair, these women create a sanctuary where they can pause, breathe, and refocus amidst life's chaos. The act of giving becomes reciprocal, an exchange of energy, where the receiver also finds solace and renewal.
